D.O.T. "Drive Safe" Program for Commercial Drivers
Nearly one-third of truck drivers have sleep apnea and many have not been diagnosed.
Commercial drivers with untreated sleep apnea have up to 15 times the
increased risk of being involved in a traffic accident. [24 Horstmann et al. Sleep 2000]
FOR COMMERCIAL DRIVERS:
How we help: Our no-hassle "Drive Safe" program is designed to get you back on the road quickly and keep you there at a fraction of the cost of hospital-based sleep centers.
Overseen by Sleep Management Institute's Board Certified Sleep Physicians, the "Drive Safe" Program is fast, cost-effective, and specifically designed to simplify the evaluation and treatment of sleep apnea for commercial drivers.
The "Drive Safe" Program is in alignment with anticipated FMCSA guidelines:
1. Office visit with one of our Sleep Providers
2. A convenient, one-night home sleep study, which includes a chain of custody device; some insurance
providers do require in-lab testing (i.e., Medicaid)
3. Follow-up office visit – results provided and, if necessary, CPAP therapy prescribed
4. Set up with CPAP equipment by a licensed clinician
5. Ongoing compliance assistance
FOR TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES:
Corporate Sleep Apnea Program
In 2006, Schneider National, a leading transporation and logistics company, developed a sleep apnea program which generates a return on investment in the form of savings on medical costs, accident reduction, reduced turnover and increased productivity. Learn how Schneider's Sleep Apnea Program dramatically reduces the risk of preventable crashes for their commercial drivers.
In response to the cost-savings shown by Schneider National, Sleep Managment Institute has developed and oversees a corporate-sponsored sleep apnea program whereby Sleep Management Institute provides the initial and ongoing sleep apnea screening and treatment for a company's new and existing commercial drivers. These programs are funded by the transportation company.
